Retail Resurgence-Why It Counts

April 10th, 2010 by Will Phillips

Okay big retailers are up over last year, but last year was lousy for them.  Well it is always hard to make comparisons. I suspect retail has been having big sales and dropped process for over a year tying to recover.

Thus the April-March increases are more likely due to consumer rather retailer changes.

Is it impressive when compared to really low sales a year ago?

In an absolute sense no but as an indicator of broad consumer behavior, maybe!

And that was why I shared the data.

Of course the good clubs have really held their own during the recession.

The best RT clubs are having a very good year so far in 2010 some with their highest level

of sales numbers ever.  This plus the general retail resurgence means no club can point to the

recession for poor performance in 2010.  So the responsibility for performance in solidly on the clubs.
